Off-Duty Agent Saves Tucson Woman from Car Crash Fire

Motor vehicle crashes have been listed as the top leading causes of death of those ages 5 – 34 years (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention). Every year, there are millions of people who are treated in emergency departments due to motor vehicle crashes. However, many of these injuries can be prevented if drivers were more careful.

In Tucson, an off-duty patrol agent saved a woman from a burning car (ABC15 06/21/2011). Just recently, there was a two-vehicle accident on the I-19. The off-duty patrol agent happened to drive by and pulled over to help. When the agent was walking over to the Tuscon car accident, he noticed that one of the vehicles was on fire with the driver, a woman, still inside. When the agent noticed that the woman’s hair was starting to burn, he used his service firearm to fire on the passenger window, breaking it and then pulling the passenger out from the burning car. Just seconds after the passenger was pulled out, the car was fully engulfed in flames. The agent has been called a hero for his act.

When driving in Arizona, not all victims may be as lucky as the saved woman from the news. Therefore, always keep safe while driving. Be attentive while on the road, and avoid using the cell phone for texting or calling. Also, do not drink and take drugs when driving as this increases the risk of getting into accidents.

2 Pregnant Women Transported to Hospitals after Tempe Car Crash

In the United States, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have estimated that among those ages 5 – 34, motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death. Every day, people are being brought into emergency departments to be treated for injuries from crashes.

In Tempe, 2 pregnant women were involved in an Arizona car crash (ABC15 06/16/2011). The crash occurred when one of the pregnant women pulled out of a private drive into traffic, and it collided with a sedan. The sedan was driven by a man, with a pregnant woman in the passenger seat. Both women were then transported to local hospitals. The driver of the sedan was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Injuries from motor vehicle crashes in Arizona can be prevented, especially if pregnant women are involved. When driving, always wear a seat belt to reduce the chances of having serious injuries in case of a motor vehicle crash. Pregnant women in Arizona should always wear their seat belts to protect themselves and their unborn child. The driver’s seat back should be moved as far back as possible because there should be at least 10 inches between the center of the chest and the steering wheel. Even if the car has a prebuilt air bag, one shouldn’t depend entirely on the air bag for protection. The air bag was made to work with the seatbelt, and not alone.

4 People Injured in Arizona Head-On Collision

Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death of those ages 5 – 34 years old in the United States. According to the Centers of Disease Control and Prevention, in 2009, more than 3.4 million adult drivers and passengers were treated in emergency departments due to motor vehicle crashes.

AZCentral reported that 4 people were taken to the hospital after being involved in a head-on collision. The SUV accident in Phoenix happened on Loop 303 near Glendale Avenue. The collision happened between two sports-utility vehicles. One swerved onto the opposite lane, while the other rolled into the field and caught fire. All four people who were in the vehicles were able to remove themselves from within their cars, with non life threatening injuries. They were all taken to hospitals right after.

When driving in Arizona, it is important to be a responsible driver. Always drive in the correct lane and follow the rules of traffic. The driver’s attention should also be directed on the road, and not on cell phones, food or other passengers. Alcohol, drugs and driving should not be done together, as the risk of accidents and injuries increase when these factors are involved. It is also important to follow the speed limit posted on the roads. Keeping safe by wearing a seat belt is also a must for everybody inside a car, no matter how short the travelled distance is.

Bicyclist Seriously Injured in Glendale Traffic Accident

Bicycling is a sport that people enjoy. However, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety has said that less than two percent of motor vehicle crash deaths involve bicyclists. In 2009, there were 630 bicycle related deaths while an additional 51,000 were injured in motor vehicle crashes (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration).

A bicyclist was seriously injured in a Glendale bicycle accident when he was struck just after midnight at 67th and Northern Avenues (AZCentral 06/09/2011). The man sustained serious injuries, but were not life-threatening. The driver of the vehicle did not receive any charges. Police also reported that the driver had a green light at the time of the accident.

Bicycles are fun to ride. But when riding one in Arizona, don’t forget to be cautious:

  • Always wear a DOT approved bicycle helmet that fits well. It will help keep the bicyclist safe from serious head injuries.
  • Wear protective clothing while riding a bicycle.
  • Be visible to other drivers. Wear brightly-colored clothing and if possible, wear reflective gear when riding a bicycle.
  • When riding on the street, follow the flow of traffic and ride in the correct lane.

Motor vehicle drivers should always remember that bicycles are small and often hard to see. So always watch out for them whenever driving on the streets, especially on intersections where accidents with bicycles are fairly common.

If you or a loved one was injured in an Arizona bicycle accident caused by a negligent driver, you may call our bike crash lawyers in Glendale at (602) 457-6222. We may be able to help.

Car accidents are responsible for an incredible amount of deaths in the United States. Just in 2009, 33,808 people died in car accidents. Tuscon Rollover Kills Two

Rollover accidents are a type of crash that has a high fatality rate. Often, rollovers are associated with speeding which can cause drivers to lose control while turning. There are also certain types of vehicles that are more prone to rollovers. According to Safercar.gov, taller, narrower vehicles such as SUVs, pickups, and vans, are at a higher risk of ending up in a rollover because of having higher centers of gravity.

In recent news, a car accident in Tuscon killed two men after their pickup truck rolled over on Interstate 19 early Monday (AZ Central 06/13/2011). According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety, the crash happened on northbound I-19 at the San Xavier off ramp at approximately 5:30 in the morning.

The vehicle lost control while turning on the northbound off ramp and hit the guard rail, going over it and rolled over resting on its side.

Investigators say the victims were not wearing safety restraints at the time of the fatal crash.

Aside from excessive speeding, alcohol has also been a big factor in past rollover accidents. According to Safercar.gov, alcohol is involved in nearly half of all fatal rollover crashes in the U.S.

To keep safe from accidents such as rollovers, always follow speed limits and avoid alcohol at all cost when driving. Also, wearing seat belts can help prevent fatal injuries in case you get in a crash.

Every year, about 1.3 million people are killed globally from motor vehicle crashes, while 20 – 50 million more are seriously injured (Centers of Disease Control and Prevention). In 2009, over 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. That's less than one percent of the 147 million self-reported episodes of alcohol-impaired driving among U.S. adults each year.

A car crashes involving multiple cars and an overturned one occurred in Phoenix recently. The accident was so severe that it blocked multiple lanes and officials had to close off the freeway in Phoenix wherein the crash had occurred. However, at 3:15 the freeway was reopened. According to the spokesperson of the Phoenix Fire Department, the incident happened at about 12:45 noontime.

The vehicles involved in the wreck were mainly an SUV and other cars travelling on the southbound State Route 51 at Northern Avenue, according to the Arizona Department of Public Safety Officer.

The SUV was being driven by a woman who was 72 years of age, and her car was the one that rolled over multiple times until it came to a stop. During the roll over, the woman was ejected out of the car and because of this, she suffered fatal injuries and was taken to a trauma hospital in the area.

1 Dead in San Manuel Head-on Collision

Head-on collisions are serious type of road traffic accident. The nature of the collision itself is dangerous enough to result to fatal injuries. Did you know that there are a total of 126,000 head-on collision accidents that took place in 2009 alone? This is according to the national statistics of NHTSA or National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It sums up to a 2.3 % of the total crashes that had happened on that year, where 3,007 incidents had resulted to fatality.

A head-on collision took place in San Manuel, Arizona, where a 74-year-old man died and three other people were injured. The fatal auto accident in Arizona was between an all-terrain vehicle Polaris Ranger and a Ford Bronco. The Ranger was heading north on Water Tank Road while the Ford Bronco heading southbound when they collided as they reached the hilltop.

The Ranger’s driver died on the scene and three other people involved in the accident were injured. The Ranger had rolled over because of the force of the impact of the collision.

The Ranger driver’s wife, a 61-year-old woman and a 17-year-old passenger of the Ford Bronco was airlifted to the University Medical Center in Tucson due to some serious injuries, but were expected to survive. The driver of the Ford Bronco was taken to the hospital by an ambulance.

According to the Pinal County Sheriff's Office, alcohol and drug impairment are factors in the car collision.

Head-on collisions like this one exemplify the importance of safe driving. Distracted and negligent driving can often lead to fatal injuries and worse, death. However, there are other factors that may contribute to head-on collisions for instance if there are obstructions on the road that may prevent the driver to see what’s ahead, which is why it is always important to keep your eyes on the road at all times.

3 Injured In Glendale Bus Crash

In 2009 alone, there are more than 5.5 million reported motor vehicle crashes had occurred in the United States alone (NHTSA). About 28% of the crashes or 1.52 million have resulted to injury and less than 1% or 30,797 incidents have resulted to death.

A vehicle collided with a Senior Living bus with senior citizens on board the vehicle last week in Glendale, Arizona. The accident took place at the intersection of 80th Avenue and Glendale. The incident happened before 9 in the morning of that day and lead to 7 people injured. However, only three were brought to the hospital as 4 of the injured senior citizen refused hospitalization.

Although there injuries were not fatal, the police are still trying to determine the Glendale bus accident causes.

Although, sometimes luckily some injuries are not too serious, it is important to let a doctor or a medical expert conduct a full examination for any hidden injuries from the incident. There might be some injuries that does not hurt that much, but may have a great effect someday and could lead to impairment.

Woman Injured by Big Rig after Darting into Phoenix Traffic

Pedestrian accidents are considered to be a serious problem not only in the United States but also worldwide. In most instances, when a pedestrian becomes a victim of a car collision, the outcome can either be serious injuries or worse, death.

In the United States, fatal car crashes involving pedestrians are quite common. In fact, pedestrians are 1.5 times more likely to be killed than passenger vehicle occupants in a car crash on each trip. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed that in 2008, 4,378 pedestrians were killed in traffic crashes, and another 69,000 pedestrians were injured in the country. This means that one pedestrian gets killed every 2 hours, and a pedestrian injury occurs every 8 minutes.

An Arizona woman suffered non-life threatening pedestrian injuries in Phoenix after she was hit by a semi-truck on Thursday morning (05/27/11). According to the Department of Public Safety (DPS) officers, witnesses saw the woman pulled over on the southbound lanes of Interstate 17 near Carefree Highway. She then darted into the approaching traffic. The woman was taken to the hospital suffering from broken bones.

Exercising caution is the most important before entering the road. Here are some tips to stay safe while on the road:

  • Pedestrians should be especially careful at intersections, where drivers may fail to yield the right-of-way to pedestrians while turning onto another street.
  • Pedestrians should increase their visibility at night by carrying a flashlight when walking and by wearing reflective clothing.
  • Whenever possible, pedestrians should cross the street at a designated crosswalk. It is much safer to walk on a sidewalk, but if pedestrians must walk in the street, they should walk facing traffic.

2-Year-Old Boy in Critical Condition after Near Drowning in Queen Creek

Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children. The CDC says that every day, three children die as a result of drowning. It is the leading cause of injury or death in children aged 1-4 years old. Perhaps this is because when families go to the beach or the pool, injuries are not the first things that come to mind.

In Queen Creek, Arizona, a 2-year-old boy was found nearly drowning in just about 9 inches of water in a kiddie pool (KPHO 5/2/2011). Officials say that the mother and her children were playing in the front yard. When they went inside, they realized that the youngest wasn’t with them. They found the child in the kiddie pool. He was then airlifted to the hospital, in extremely critical condition.

Parents and relatives who have children in the house should be aware of safety measures against drowning. Children should have ample supervision when near a pool or any body of water. Apart from drowning, accidents like slipping and falling might happen. Parents could also install a fence with self-closing and self-latching gates around backyard pools to help keep the children away when the parents cannot supervise them. Kids should wear life jackets in and around beaches or lakes, even if they know how to swim. It would help if the parents know how to perform CPR, this skill comes in handy, just in case. And of course, the golden rule of parenthood is to always supervise children at all times.

If you know someone or a loved one who has been involved in an accidental or non-accidental drowning, call our Arizona child swimming pool accident lawyers for a free consultation at (480) 753-4534. We may be able to help.

Teen Struck by Vehicle at Phoenix Bus Stop

Impaired drivers kill almost 30 people in the United States every day, which would make an estimated one death every 48 minutes. In 2009, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention states that over 1.4 million drivers were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol or narcotics. The government has measures in place to guard against these drivers, and yet, accidents still happen all the time.

A teenage girl sustained life-threatening injuries in a pedestrian accident in Phoenix (ABC15 05/06/2011). The 17-year-old girl was waiting at a bus stop when a female driver drove her vehicle up on the sidewalk, hitting the girl. Witnesses say that the vehicle continued to run for a short distance before it stopped. The female driver was then held down by bystanders until the police arrived, to keep her from leaving the scene. Police say that the woman, 54, may have been driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. The 17-year-old victim was taken to a hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The life of that teenager will forever be changed and impaired driving caused her misfortune. Drinking and using drugs cannot be combined when driving. When drinking, let a sober person drive the car instead. If no sober person can be found, it would be better to ride the bus or a taxi home. When hosting a party where alcohol will be served, be responsible by reminding guests to plan ahead and designate their sober driver, or better yet, offer alcohol-free beverages.

DUI Arrests Down During the Holidays According to Maricopa County Sheriff's Office

Motor vehicle crashes involving a drunk driver kills nearly 30 people every day. In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) revealed that more than 2.3 million people injured from fatal car crashes were treated in emergency departments. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) statistics in 2009 also revealed that 32 percent of about 34,000 car accident fatalities involve impaired driving.

Unlike last year's Memorial Day Weekend, the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office revealed that DUI arrests this year's celebration were much lower. The lower rates of DUI’s were met with an increase in cab company business. These results implied that most of us are getting the “Don't drink and drive” message and becoming even more responsible when it comes to drinking and driving in Arizona.

In pursuit to establish a safer weekend holiday, 30 sheriff deputies were sent to lookout for impaired drivers from Friday night to Sunday night. In fact, the number of DUI arrests went down to 14 between Roosevelt Dam and Lake Pleasant.

Meanwhile, other reports from last weekend holidays are:

  • 135 underage drinking were issued tickets from Friday to Sunday, almost the same as last year
  • 460 people were arrested during heightened enforcement of drunken driving laws over the holiday weekend statewide.
  • 462 arrests from Wednesday through Sunday as per the statistics released Monday for Arizona's statewide DUI enforcement program
  • 11,000 traffic stops were made by officers and also recorded 330 designated drivers behind the wheel

Man Dies after Pickup Crashes and Catches Fire in Arizona

Car accidents in Arizona may be caused by equipment failure, defective roadway design, poor roadway maintenance, and/or driver behavior. Speeding and impaired driving are considered leading causes of car collisions.

According to KHPO, a man died in an Arizona traffic accident at the intersection of State Route 95 and Palo Verde. The victim was driving his pickup truck at a high speed when he struck another vehicle and subsequently hit a light pole. The victim died at the scene while the occupant of the other vehicle was uninjured.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) more than 33,000 people died in auto accidents nationwide in 2009. Speeding was the cause for some of these fatal accidents. The higher the vehicle speed, the greater the risk of an accident. It is expected that the outcome of an accident involving a vehicle travelling at a high speed is more severe and deadly than one involving vehicles travelling at relatively normal speeds. Speeding in Arizona decreases a driver’s reaction time while increasing their stopping distance. This makes it very difficult to avoid hazards. In order to avoid fatal and catastrophic injury accidents in Arizona speed limits must be obeyed.

As one the top Arizona car accident lawyers, we urge victims of reckless drivers to seek for rightful compensation. Contact one of our top attorneys at (480) 753-4534 to know more about our compassionate approach to helping victims of car accidents.

Scottsdale Driver Fell Asleep and Killed 2 Pedestrians

The National Highway Safety Traffic Admission has announced that 4,092 pedestrians were killed and an estimated 59,000 were injured in traffic crashes in the U.S. in 2009. From this figure, it was deduced that a pedestrian was killed every two hours and injured every nine minutes in traffic crashes.

Last week in Scottsdale, a driver hit and killed two pedestrians who were from Alaska (ABC15 05/20/2011). On May 8, a couple from Alaska was walking on the sidewalk when an SUV drove into the sidewalk, hitting the two, and then a power pole. The driver of the SUV that hit the pedestrians was a 23-year-old male who have stated that he fell asleep while driving at the time of the pedestrian accident in Scottsdale. Both pedestrians were pronounced dead at a nearby hospital, while the driver suffered only minor injuries.

The safest place for a pedestrian in Scottsdale is the sidewalk. However, it seems that from this account, pedestrians should maintain caution even when on the sidewalk. That’s why; it is always wise to be seen by drivers while walking. At night, it is advised that a flashlight be carried while walking. Putting reflective material on to the clothes could also help, as well as wearing bright-colored clothes. As for drivers, it is advised that one should not drink and drive as well as text and drive and in this case, it is important to get proper rest before driving.

If you or a loved one was injured or killed in an Arizona pedestrian accident because of negligence, then you may call our Scottsdale fatal pedestrian accident attorneys at (602) 267-1280 for a free consultation. Know your legal rights and options.
