Driver Flees Scene after Phoenix Pedestrian Accident

The law team at Breyer Law Offices, P.C. was extremely disappointed to hear that yet another driver has fled the scene of a pedestrian accident in Phoenix. The woman who was hit was crossing the road near 19th Avenue and Camelback Road on December 22. The driver left her lying across the light-rail tracks after hitting her. Our thoughts and prayers are with her, and we wish her a fast recovery.

People who leave the scene of car accidents should question their actions and turn themselves in to the police. For families of injured victims, and even more so for families of loved ones who are killed in hit and run car accidents, knowing the facts surrounding an accident is important. When drivers leave the scene, it makes it that much harder for families and loved ones of innocent victims. No one should ever be the victim of a hit and run car accident.

Causes of This Phoenix Hit and Run Accident

According to a news report in AZ Central, this Phoenix pedestrian accident happened at night when visibility was poor. The woman crossed outside of a designated crosswalk. When the car hit her, the driver apparently kept going and fled the scene. The pedestrian was intoxicated. That being said, this woman most likely has a personal injury claim against the driver. Whether pedestrians are intoxicated or not in the cross walk does not always determine whether or not they have a valid personal injury claim, especially when the driver flees the scene of the car accident.

How Can a Phoenix Personal Injury Attorney Help?

It would take an experienced Phoenix hit and run attorney to investigate this accident. Some victims think they have no legal rights if they cross outside of a designated crosswalk or are intoxicated, but that is not always true, especially as stated above, when the driver has broken the law by fleeing the scene. The Husband and Wife Law Team at Breyer Law Offices, P.C. would have to thoroughly investigate by reviewing police reports, interviewing witnesses, and more. The team would work to obtain a settlement from the at-fault driver to pay for the medical expenses, hospital stay, and more. Contact us for a free initial consultation.

Tucson Hit-and-Run Accident Leads to Injured Officers

As Tucson hit-and-run accident lawyers, we were shocked to hear that a driver hit not one but two motorcycle officers on January 4 after being pulled over for a routine traffic stop. According to a news report in the Arizona Daily Star, the driver pulled behind one motorcycle officer who was conducting another traffic stop. Once at a stop, the driver backed up to hit the officer behind him, then pulled forward to hit the other one, leaving them both with injuries.

The incident occurred at 9:30 a.m. near the South Palo Verde Road bridge at 36th Street. The driver then fled to some nearby apartment buildings, got out of the car, and disappeared on foot. He has yet to be apprehended, but police describe him as a male in his 20’s wearing a red and white baseball cap and dark colored hooded jacket. Anyone with information is asked to call 88-CRIME.

Tucson Hit-and-Run Accident Statistics

There were 9,720 car accidents in Tucson during 2010 that resulted in 54 deaths and 5,315 injuries. In total in Arizona, there were 11,388 hit-and-run accidents that led to 44 deaths and 3,150 injuries, according to the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT).

Avoiding Tucson Hit-and-Run Accidents

Unfortunately, there are very few ways to avoid hit-and-run accidents. Our best advice is to always be aware of your surroundings and try to prevent them before they happen. In some cases, other drivers can act as witnesses and record the license plate numbers of anyone trying to flee the scene, which is illegal and can result in large fines as well as jail time in Arizona.

Two-Car Accident in Bullhead City, Suspect Flees

As Bullhead City personal injury attorneys, we were saddened to hear that a suspect involved in a car crash fled the scene before police arrived. A white pick-up truck with no lights smashed into the back of another car at the intersection of McCormick Blvd. and Indian Head Drive early Sunday morning according to The Mohave Daily News. The driver of the truck exited his vehicle, tried to convince the other driver not to call police, and then fled the scene according to witnesses. When police arrived, the suspect was gone. Luckily, no one was injured.

Cause of This Bullhead City Car Accident

Driving under the influence caused this Bullhead auto accident. Victims of drunk drivers often experience, at the very least, damages to their vehicles and minor injuries. Others are seriously injured or killed. It takes an experienced car accident lawyer to investigate the case, uncover the facts and represent the victim to recover damages and medical bills.

Arizona Hit-and-Run Statistics

The Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) reports that more than 16,000 Arizona drivers were guilty of hit-and-run accidents in 2005. While the victims in this car collision luckily escaped injury, there are many victims that don’t. As car accident lawyers, we often see people who were injured and don’t receive immediate assistance because the other driver flees the scene and doesn’t call for help. Also, like many hit-and-run incidents, this crash involved driving under the influence, which police later discovered when a woman called them to report that the suspect was walking down the middle of McCormick Blvd. She called for help after she allowed him to get into her car where he then repeatedly vomited.

10-Year-Old Girl Victim of Hit and Run in Surprise

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), one in every five children from 5 to 9 years old were killed in pedestrain road traffic accidents in 2008. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among American children and young adults. In 2009, pedestrian-motor vehicle crashes accounted for 59,000 reported injuries and took the lives of 4,092 victims.

Pedestrian fatalities have dropped by 22 percent since 1998. Despite all of this, we still cannot be assured that pedestrians are any safer. There are a number of possibilities that we have to consider such as the number of people walking, how often and where they walk. This is to be certain that the decline is indeed a good one.

Did you know that three out of for pedestrian fatalities happen in urban areas? In Arizona, 155 pedestrians were killed and 1,236 were injured in 2010 according to the Arizona Department of Transport (ADOT). Out of these numbers 101 Arizona pedestrian fatalities and 1,135 injuries occurred in urban areas.

On Tuesday evening (09/07/11), a 10-year old girl was struck by a Toyota Camry while walking in a crosswalk. The girl was walking at West Point Parkway and Rimrock Street, northwest of Dysart and Greenway roads in Surprise. Police authorities revealed that the driver of the vehicle reportedly got out of the car to check on the girl but left immediately.

The girl was taken to the hospital by helicopter while the suspected driver was taken into custody by the police.

Did you know that 630 bicyclists were killed and 51,000 more were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes on US roads in 2009? According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, these bicycle fatalities represent 2 percent of the total traffic fatalities in 2009. Statistics also revealed that 70 percent of these crashes happen in urban areas and at non-intersections. In most cases, bicycle injury statistics are under-reported. This is because police do not report the accident especially when the victim is not seriously injured.

Phoenix DPS Officer Chases Down Hit and Run Crash Suspect

A hit and run is actually a serious crime in most jurisdictions. It is not only unsafe, it is also unfair for those who have been hit and have been injured in the process. In the United States, about 10% out of all traffic collisions are caused by a hit and run situation. It is called hit and run because after hitting a vehicle or a pedestrian, the vehicle who caused the hit, immediately drives away without leaving any identification..

In Phoenix, a Department of Public Safety officer was taken to the hospital after his vehicle was struck (ABC15 07/12/2011). Police say that the DPS officer’s unmarked car was turning into a convenience store when another vehicle struck him in a merging lane. Reportedly, the other vehicle did not stop driving for half a mile before the DPS officer who was struck was able to stop the vehicle. The driver of the second car was then arrested but released at the scene. The DPS officer was then taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

In motor vehicle crashes in Arizona, it is expected that any driver who has been involved in an accident should stop his or her vehicle when it is safe to do so. Identification should be exchanged as well as contact information with any other driver who has been involved in the accident.

If you or a loved one has been injured in a hit and run accident in Arizona, you may call us for a free consultation at (602) 457-6222. We are Arizona hit and run crash lawyers and we may be able to help.

Car accidents are responsible for an incredible amount of deaths in the United States. Just in 2009, 33,808 people died in car accidents.
